The 30-day alcohol-free challenge

A month off alcohol is easier with company. Pick any 30 days (January and October are popular) and tick each alcohol-free day together.

  • 30 days
  • Done
  • Every day
  • Ranked by days

If you drink heavily or every day, talk to a doctor before you stop suddenly, because alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Streako is a habit tracker, not a treatment or support service. If you are worried about your drinking, a doctor or a local alcohol support service can help.

The rules

  1. 1

Tick the day each evening if you had no alcohol. Agree as a group whether alcohol-free beers and wines are allowed.

  2. 2

Only days inside the challenge dates count towards the leaderboard. Forgot? Log up to 7 days back, honestly.

  3. 3

A slip is not the end. Record what really happened and carry on tomorrow.

  4. 4

Most completed days wins. Ties share a place.

Why this challenge works

A month is long enough to notice how you feel without alcohol, and short enough to commit to. Many people use it as a reset after a busy season, or simply to find out how much of their drinking is habit rather than choice.

Doing it with friends changes the social side. When the people you usually drink with are doing it too, Friday night becomes a plan to make rather than a test of willpower.

This is a personal challenge, not treatment. For anyone who drinks heavily or daily, stopping suddenly can be dangerous, so speak to a doctor before you start.

Week by week

  1. Week 1

Clear the house and plan your swaps: a soft drink you actually like, tea in the evening, a walk where the after-work drink used to be.

  2. Week 2

Plan for the first big social event. Decide what you will order before you arrive, and tell one person your plan.

  3. Week 3

Notice what has changed. A mood and a short note on each check-in make it easy to look back on how the month felt.

  4. Week 4

Finish the month, then decide what comes next. Some people keep a few alcohol-free days a week as a regular habit.

Tips to win

  • Write the group's rules in the challenge description, including whether alcohol-free drinks count.
  • Set your reminder for the time you would usually have a drink. A nudge at that moment does more than one in the morning.
  • Add a note on hard days. Seeing what triggered the urge helps next time.
  • Afterwards, carry on with an alcohol-free day habit on the days that suit you.
