Why it matters
Many people use meditation to pause, notice their thoughts and feel a little calmer. Research into mindfulness has grown a lot in recent years, and regular short practice is what most teachers recommend for beginners.
Meditation is also a habit that benefits from consistency more than length. Two minutes every day tends to build the skill better than half an hour once a week.
Meditation is not a substitute for professional care. If you are dealing with anxiety, low mood or trauma, speak with a qualified professional, and stop any practice that makes you feel worse.
