The 30-day reading challenge

Twenty minutes a day adds up to around ten hours in a month. Doing it with friends makes the minutes actually happen.

  • Every day
  • Ranked by days

The rules

  1. 1

Log the minutes you read. The day counts once you reach 20.

  2. 2

Any format counts: paper, e-reader or audiobook, as your group agrees.

  3. 3

Only days inside the challenge dates count towards the leaderboard.

  4. 4

Most completed days wins. Ties share a place.

Why this challenge works

Reading is easy to postpone because there is always something louder. A shared challenge gives it a daily slot and a little social pressure.

A time target is fairer than pages: a dense book and a light one take the same 20 minutes. It also keeps the focus on the habit, not the speed.

It works well for book clubs and teams. Everyone reads their own book, and the leaderboard keeps the pace.

Week by week

  1. Week 1

Pick a fixed moment: before bed, on the commute or with morning coffee. Keep the book where that moment happens.

  2. Week 2

Swap one scroll session for reading. It is often exactly the 20 minutes you were missing.

  3. Week 3

Have a backup: an audiobook for busy days keeps the streak alive.

  4. Week 4

Share what you read in a note on your check-in. Your history becomes a reading log.

Tips to win

  • Glance at the clock when you open the book and log the minutes when you close it.
  • Add a note with a line you liked. It is a nice record at the end of the month.
  • Use a smart reminder so the nudge matches when you usually read.
  • If 20 minutes feels big, create the challenge at 10. Consistency beats volume.
